The reason I liked doing the "Five things I'm digging right now" was because it forced me to find the "bright side" of something. I need to do that more often and thought that was a cool way of doing it (original idea courtesy of Andy Cohen). So in the same spirit of it and since I'm done with that for 2011, I'm going to do a list of 365 things I've been digging all year. They're not in order, just the first things that pop into my head that I liked the entire year. (I started today as of 2:30 p.m. I finished on 12/31/11 at 10:38 p.m., in between running errands. HAPPY (almost) NEW YEAR!)

All right, this is my last "Five things I"m digging right now" for 2011 and for good. It's been fun doing these, but I want a new series in the new year. Anyway, here are five things I'm digging right now.

1. BlackMusicTube: I have no idea why I'm just now finding out about this site, but I was trying to find out where to listen to Tyrese's new CD "Open Invitation" after it didn't download correctly on my mp3 player. This site is even better than listening to AOL's Listening Party because there are more CDs to choose from, and I don't have to blow my money on stuff I don't like without listening to it.

2. T-Pain's "Revolver" CD: This is the first CD I've enjoyed straight through from him. I usually just like the singles, but he did a really great job on this one. I still remember seeing him live in concert a couple years ago. I became an all-around fan of his as soon as I saw him live in action and stood up the entire time he was onstage.

What's up, all? Hope you're enjoying your Sunday. So let's get right into my "Five things I'm digging right now."

1. Assertive men: This is one I don't think I've ever appreciated nor did I think I'd ever think it was something I'd dig. But recently I've observed two types of guys--the ones that make it plain, "Yeah, I like you. Let's go out" and the other, "Let me just keep making idle chitchat and mildly flirting but not really doing anything about it." There are two ways to look at the second guy--either he's just trying to pass time when he sees you or he's shy. Either way it goes, this guy is annoying and a waste of time. I know it's difficult to approach someone with the possible chance of being shot down, but then I observed the other guy. The one who walks right up to you, asks if you're single, says he wants to go out, tells you what he likes about you and stands there with the "So what you gonna do?" face. He does everything but take your cell from you and put his number in it because he just knows you'll call. I love that guy. That type of confidence cracks me up. Even when you're not interested in him, he still has the "your loss" look on his face, and you can't do anything but respect him because that cat is going to find what he's looking for, whether it's you or someone else. I can't be mad at that. Now does this guy have the suspicious signs of a player? Yes. But he also has the same cockiness most attractive women do, the kind that says, "I'm worth it. I love me. I think I'm fun to be around, and you should, too. Now let's share some time together." Meanwhile the other guy is pussyfooting around. I shake off the shy ones. It's a turn-off.

I'm back with my new favs. I missed last week so this is once again my "Five things I'm digging right now" times two.

1. "In the morning" by Drake and J-Cole: I like listening to this song every morning. J-Cole can get kinda vulgar on his album, but I like the edited version of his music and that groggy voice Drake is doing is sexy as all hell. I listen to this every morning on my way to work at least three times straight.

2. Rihanna's new CD "Talk That Talk": I could do without Jay-Z's verse, but other than that, this is a solid CD and so was her last one. I'm a late fan, but she's very talented. It just took me some time to get used to her voice.

3. Quench!: I don't recall whether I've mentioned them before, but I'm a loyal supporter of this restaurant chain. I go whenever I'm on the south side, and I went to the 79th street location for the first time. It's nice, and you can sit down. The workers are always polite, too. I highly recommend the soy veggie wrap (spicy). The veggie melt is good, too.

I like this show "Tough Love" because it points out dating flaws. It's fun to watch and I can usually detect my own flaws (or perks) in the dating world. Anyway, tonight's episode focused on dating deal breakers and some of the stuff the women chose was fascinating because they got to watch a crowd of men stand up or sit down depending on which criteria they met. Some women were left with 8%-10% of the audience because they were so picky.

This made me think of a BlackPlanet account I had a few years ago. I wrote down 35 do's and 35 don'ts about the type of guy I like. Crazy thing is while it was my opinion, I got message after message from guys either complaining about my list or telling me I needed to bend on it. At the time, I didn't understand why anybody who didn't fit my list would even bother contacting me. Don't fit it? Move on. But the most sobering reaction was that I did talk to a guy from BlackPlanet who did fit a bunch of my requirements and had a couple of my cons, dated him, and he turned out to be the absolute worst boyfriend I've ever had. What did that teach me? Narrow down your requirements to things that truly matter to your morals, calm down on the superficial stuff, and don't budge when you realize you two aren't compatible. I learned so much from that relationship, and as much as I cringe about it today, the bonus side was I used that experience and got so much inspiration in writing. While the relationship was the worst, my career was going way better. So sometimes you have to take the good with the bad.

And sometimes the guy who fits your requirements still may be Mr. Wrong (or in my case Mr. DudeYouretheWorstEver). Anywho, with that said, I'm going to use my "Five things I'm digging right now" I missed from last week and this week to list 10 things I dig in guys I've dated/currently date at this very moment. They aren't the same superficial things I listed a few years back and these things weed out a lot of my cons by default. So anyway, here we go:

10 dating deals/requirements I'm digging right now:

Chicago weather is killing me and I have a cold I'm living in Bally's trying to sweat out. Other than that, life is good. I'm behind on this rundown so I'm combining two weeks of "Five things I'm digging right now."

1. One of the front desk attendants at Bally's: He's a cutie. I come to work out, but it doesn't hurt that he's usually at the front desk and nice on the eyes. He knows my name without me telling him, and that's always a bonus plus he's a friendly guy. I dig good customer service.

2. Breast cancer video with hot guys: I first saw this video while updating a Booster Shots blog for the Trib. I felt super weird watching it at work, but my neighbor behind me had no shame about watching it and showing another co-worker so then I had to see it. I love this video.

Since I was on vacation last week (from Wednesday afternoon through the weekend) and it's been awhile since I had steady days off (for awhile I worked weekends in Breaking News), I've got a whole lot that I'm digging right now so I'm doing my five dig countdown right now.

This will be the five things I'm digging during my vacation:

1. Not worrying about sleep habits: I went to sleep when I wanted to (and turned my house and cell phone off) and woke up when I wanted to. I knew I got the right amount of sleep because I didn't wake up until I was good and ready. The right amount of sleep can leave a person feeling refreshed even if her body clock is used to waking up early.

2. Walking my parents' German Shepherd, Faith: I love their dog. As much as I love my apartment eventually either the location or I am going to have to give. I want a dog, and not one of those little dogs that jump on the couch and bark with a super thug complex (those are the dogs they allow). I want a Marmaduke sized dog--German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, Doberman Pinscher, Alaskan Husky, that size dog. But in the meantime, I was on the south side for a bit and I dropped by my parents' house to grab the leash and walk their dog around. (Funny enough my father panicked and thought someone stole their dog because he came home before I could return her. In my defense, my car was parked right in front of their house and I left a message on their answering machine but he paid no attention to either. Poor Dad. He looked so relieved to see me walking up to the front gate and telling Faith to stop harassing the mail carrier.)

It's been a minute and a whole lot of experiences within this past month so I'm just now making time to do the "Five things I'm digging right now." Since it's been three weeks, it'll be 15.

1) Cosi's Hummus & Veggie sandwich: I used to go to Cosi's when I temped for a real estate company, but I hadn't been there in years. This past summer, I was a "guide" for a Tribune intern and I took him to lunch at Cosi's. It made me remember how much I loved their bread. I got the sandwich and since then got it a few more times.

2) Tayari Jones' "Silver Sparrow": Check out my review on the Trib's site here.

3) Olive Garden salad dressing: Seriously, I like eating salad but the salad dressing they use is better than any I've ever tasted. While dining with my mother, I found out this past weekend that they sell it. Looks like they'll have two regular customers!

1. Kita cooking for Terrell Owens on "The T.O. Show": I know they're not together. I can respect that, and I have a great deal of respect for platonic friendships. Men and women can be friends, but I think it's incredibly admirable that she's a big enough friend to empty his urine container and cook for him. You can't get girlfriends and some wives to do that like a champ, but she did it in stride with a little bit of complaining. However, the scene in the kitchen with him accusing her of sneaking in caterers and being skeptical of the flour on her face cracks me up. I can't get enough of that scene. I've watched it at least five times and recorded it to watch at my leisure.

2. Hanging out with Grandad/Chi Tung: Chi Tung is my favorite Asian food restaurant. I've been to some fancier ones like P.F. Chang, and they're cool, but I like Chi Tung. My grandfather and I went there a couple times and for the past few years it's pretty much a tradition. I even tried buying my own food one time so we didn't have to go anywhere and he still wanted to go. I went to his house yesterday, and he was cleaning up. Then here he comes all decked out with his leather shoes, collar shirt and neat jeans (he's always fresh) and ready to roll, completely ignoring the storm outside. Although he kept trying to convince me to say it was my birthday so I could get those "pick-up sticks" that I was jealous my mother got for hers, I wouldn't budge. November will come soon enough, and I'll get my chopsticks then. He's a funny guy and always has jokes about how I manage to eat with "the pick-up sticks." I love hanging with him in general, but it's cool that we have a regular hangout location.

1. Whoopi Goldberg's "Is it just me? Or is it nuts out there?": I figured this book was going to be good because I like Whoopi. There were times when I leaned over a bench I was sitting on (during my workout walk) and just laughed. Hard. It was good to get a carefree laugh or two in while reading this. (I reviewed this book for the Trib, but it hasn't gone live yet.)

2. China Hut: I ignored the restaurant when it first popped up around my neighborhood, but since I refuse to go back into Loving Hut I needed another nearby restaurant for my lazy cooking days. I got crab rangoon (the only seafood I can still eat) and vegetable fried rice from there, and it was delicious. Maybe I'll stop asking my grandfather to take me to Chi Tung now that I found an Asian food restaurant around me that I actually like.
