2. China Hut: I ignored the restaurant when it first popped up around my neighborhood, but since I refuse to go back into Loving Hut I needed another nearby restaurant for my lazy cooking days. I got crab rangoon (the only seafood I can still eat) and vegetable fried rice from there, and it was delicious. Maybe I'll stop asking my grandfather to take me to Chi Tung now that I found an Asian food restaurant around me that I actually like.
1. Whoopi Goldberg's "Is it just me? Or is it nuts out there?": I figured this book was going to be good because I like Whoopi. There were times when I leaned over a bench I was sitting on (during my workout walk) and just laughed. Hard. It was good to get a carefree laugh or two in while reading this. (I reviewed this book for the Trib, but it hasn't gone live yet.)

Add Comment I want to say "The New Adventures of Old Christine" again, but I already covered that. For the record though, I love watching this show and since it's syndicated and I never knew about it before, then every episode is new to me. A marathon is a barrel of laughs, and I can sit around watching that show all day long. But on to five new things I'm digging right now:
#1 @BlackHealthNews Twitter account: I wrote a blog on July 28th about how trivial I thought hair was when it comes to health, and after I wrote it, I thought, "Well, what can I do besides try to keep my own health up? How do I bring attention to others since I don't have the same free time I used to to speak on campuses?" So I decided to start another Twitter account @BlackHealthNews so those who do care about their health in the African-American community would have a one-stop shop to find news from everywhere I visited. There are a lot of Trib links, but I also find links from other sites, too. This actually makes me scour sites more often than I used to so I like that. 1. Ultimate Merger: I give major respect to the show for using faux fur instead of real fur. Thanks @LilVanPeebles for calling me out about that because I originally comp-tweet-lained before I knew it was fake. The show is interesting and there's some serious eye candy on here, too. Usually on these dating shows there are only 1 or 2 guys I enjoy, but a lot of these guys are entertaining. So far, I'm cheering for Jason, Cedric, Frank and King. I like temperamental Harvey playing "big brother," too.
2. David Banner's "Swag": I can't remember the last time (minus Eminem's "Syllables") that I actually had to listen to a hip-hop song more than a couple times to make sure I got all the lyrics. Usually it's a bunch of negative gibberish with a tight beat. I can dance to a few, but I'd NEVER buy it. This song, however, I respect. I respect what David Banner is doing professionally anyway, but this cut sealed it for me. (Just an FYI, I despise it when people use the word "nigga" and completely disregard the history. I went through a stage in high school when I thought it was OK but college quickly poured ice water on me and I haven't used it in conversation--outside of quoting--since then.) 1. Cheesecake ice cream recipe: I've never had cheesecake ice cream, but I can't imagine it being bad. Check out Leah Eskin's recipe for it. I'm going to find some place to try this out. Yeah, notice I didn't say I'd make it. I hate cooking. I cook so I don't die not out of enjoyment.
2. The sound of crickets: I'd go bananas if I had one in my home, but I do remember being cool with one being caught in my parents' basement. The reason why I like the sound they make is because my maternal grandmother used to make this noise with her tongue that sounded exactly like a cricket. |
